Medicine Point Trail Project

June 18, 2007

Text Box: Five members joined Nick Hazelbaker, the FS Wilderness Resource Specialist for Trails, on Monday, June 18, at the Medicine Point trailhead.  The project was to resupply the Medicine Point Lookout and clean the 3.5 mile trail leading up to it.  Bill Coward, Chuck Miller, Earl and Karen Philips, Ron Raffensperger and Nick cleaned water bars, removed debris, cut out 47 trees, packed in paint, water and supplies, and packed out empty propane tanks.

The trail is in great shape now, and wild flowers are everywhere.  It provides spectacular views and though it travels through some burned areas, it is a beautiful trail.  Trails leading from the lookout go to Rocky Knob, Shook Mountain, Wiles Peak and Crazy Creek Horse Camp.  Access to Medicine Point trailhead is on Road #370 which turns off Hwy. 93 at Medicine Spring Rd.
