Text Box: Bitter Root BCH members Mike Jorgensen and Chuck Miller worked alongside Forest Service employees Nick Hazelbaker (Wilderness Resource Specialist for Trails), Steve Bull (Wilderness Trail Crew Foreman) and Dave Lucas (Packer) and Montana Conservation Corps members on June 25-26 at Mill Creek Trail.  Mike and Chuck each lead two pack animals loaded with gravel and traveled one and a half miles to a section of the trail that was relocated last July.

In 2006 trees fell across Mill Creek and formed a dam, which flooded a low section of the trail.  Last summer Forest Service and Montana Conservation Corps workers spent five weeks relocating the 800-foot section of trail to an area high above the creek.  They then dumped gravel on the rocky section but ran out of gravel and time to finish the job.  Chuck helped with the gravel hauling part of this project last September.

On June 25-26 workers and volunteers transported another large pile of gravel to the relocated trail, and it is in great shape now.  To accomplish this task, pack animals were loaded with 130 pounds of gravel in gravel bags, and each animal averaged seven round trips a day.

Thank you, Mike and Chuck, for your work packing in gravel many times to smooth out this rocky section of Mill Creek Trail.  It should remain in good shape for years to come.
