06/4/2018 Trail Tails - E-Newsletter - Volume 1 Number 4
President's Message Officers and Directors
Greetings ESBCH Members, It seems that we are having some conflict on a couple of projects as most of you who attended the last meeting on May 10th it was decided that we were going to make the Blackleaf Wildlife Management Area our first project. The project is a joint venture involving the Fish Wildlife and Parks, BLM, Forest Service and us. The project consists of having a trail made from Forest Service Trail #153 which runs along the Rocky Mountain Front and the Blackleaf Wildlife Management Area. The trail will start on National Forest land and pass through BLM land and end on the Blackleaf Wildlife Management Area providing increased access and recreational opportunities. Our responsibility for the project is to install a gate on the fence line between the BLM and Wildlife Management Area. The trail will be constructed by the Montana Conservation Corps and maintained by us.
So where the conflict is that before the last state board meeting I had been in contact with Mark Himmel on getting our members chain saw training and Mark suggested that we visit the topic at the state board meeting, but as I am no longer on the state board I delegated Merlyn and Bob to work something out with Mark. It so happened that the date for the saw training is set for June 16th the same day as our work project at the Blackleaf Wildlife Management Area. Although this presented a problem after talking with Travis Rixford of the BLM he said that he was unsure if he could get the gate and materials for our project by the June 16th date as they have not made a decision as to where the gate will be located for sure between Fish Wildlife and Parks and the BLM, so it is looking like we are going to be doing saw training rather that the gate project.
The saw training is set for June 16th at Gibson Dam. We will meet at the campground at the bottom of the dam before you start up the Beaver - Willow Road at 8:30 A.M. I would ask anyone interested in chain saw certification or re-certification to please contact me so we can get a head count for the training. It is very important that you let me know by June 8th because Mark needs to know how many to expect because if there is over six or seven he will need to bring another instructor. Our next meeting is June 14th and that is only 2 days before June 16th. Once I have a list I will keep you all informed via e-mail or phone if anything changes. If you are going to attend Mark said to bring a lunch and water. Bob was talking about going up Friday night. So if that interests anyone maybe we can make a weekend thing.
It would definatley be benefit to our chapter if we had a few more members qualified for chain saw.

Also if you are able to help out with the annual Spray Day at Swift Dam your participation would be greatly appreciated it is June 19th and lunch will be provided for more information see the link below.

As always, when in doubt let your horse do the thinkn Fred

REDESIGNED INCIWEB (FIRE MANAGEMENT WEBSITE) -USDA Forest Service Fire and Aviation Management Program Information Technology, in partnership with USDA Enterprise Application Services and U.S. Forest Service Fire and Aviation Management Program External Affairs, is pleased to announce the launch of the new modernized, mobile-enabled InciWeb public website. This is the first major redesign for the website since it was developed. InciWeb is available at https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/ (the InciWeb URL did not change). The redesigned website is the result of collaboration between local, state, tribal and federal agencies across the country. Dozens of InciWeb users from these agencies provided input on how to improve the website and participated in extensive testing of it. The interagency InciWeb Steering Committee reviewed feedback and worked with the USDA Enterprise Team to create a new stream-lined website for incident information that's easy to understand and navigate.

DON'T FORGET YOU NEED TO SIGN-UP FOR THE CHAIN SAW CERTIFICATION (Click Here to Sign-up) Sign-up Deadline is Friday June 8th.

New Inciweb Website (Continued)
The new site features enhancements that include:  New color scheme and logo, an interactive map showing various information layers, map locator feature for users to view incidents near their location and a mobile-enabled capability to format to smartphone, tablet or iPad devices. Integrates and syncs with the InciWeb administrative site (back-end where users upload information - this site has not changed). 508 compliant InciWeb is an interagency website that provides 'one-stop shopping' for incident information to internal and external audiences. It's primarily used for wildfires, prescribed fires and fire-related incidents. InciWeb is a source for incident and contact information, news releases, closure information, photos, maps and videos for incidents that occur on federal, state, tribal and local jurisdictions.
“You can watch a short video highlighting the new website and how to navigate it at https://youtu.be/PlhkowgqqmQ  Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document and other InciWeb information is also available at https://www.nifc.gov/PIO_bb/inciweb.html Special thanks to Christine Schuldheisz, Public Affairs Specialist for the USDA Forest Service Washington Office Fire and Aviation Management Program, who led the effort to redesign the InciWeb public site - those of you who have been involved with these types of projects know how difficult and time consuming they are. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Christine at cmschuldheisz@fs.fed.us or 208-387-5145 thanks!

Back Country Horsemen of Montana has canceled the Regional Forester Ride for this year due to low participation from the Forest Service. There were too many conflicts. We felt it best to revisit the ride for next year.
