You don’t need to know how to play poker\, but you do need a horse. You\, your horse and all of your riding buddies should arrive on July 6th at the Bridger Ski Bowl Parking lot. Sign-in is from 8:00 – 10:00; you can begin to ride between 8:30 and 10:30. If you show up at the sign-in tent after 10:00 you will need to draw all of your cards at that time. One poker hand which includes a lunch and a chance to win great prizes is $35. Lunch alone is $10. If you have children under 12 you can sign them up for $15 each but they are not eligible for a poker hand prize. The children will however have access to lunch. The trail is well marked and will have a default route that is about 10 miles in length and an alternate shorter route marked with surveyors’ tape and requires about 4 hours to ride for the default route. \nPoker Ride Defined\nWhoa\, wait a minute\, don’t get ahead of the trail boss here. Before you ride out\, sign-in and pick up a map and tally sheet and draw your first card. Mount-up and follow the marked trail for a few miles through the beautiful Bridger Mountains to the first stop where coolers with cold drinks\, watermelon\, and cards await. Friendly folks allow you to tie up\, rest a spell\, chat\, have a cold drink and select another card for your hand. You will discover three of these “stops” along the route. When you arrive back in camp following the marked trail loop you will draw your fifth and last card. Turn your “hand” into the sign-in tent and head for the lunch line where BBQ chicken hot off the grill and sides will be served. You will be given a chance to draw three more cards for $10 each to enhance your poker hand. Winning hands are announced at 3:00pm and you or a proxy will need to be present to win. \nPrizes\nEveryone is guaranteed a good time\, but a good poker hand can get you a mighty nice prize. We will also have door prizes and a silent auction table with very nice items for you to bid on along with a 50/50 ticket drawing where you could take home some cash. We would like to thank our generous sponsors that make this ride possible. \nProceeds Support Trail Work\nThe proceeds from the event help the Gallatin Valley Back Country Horsemen to maintain regional trails. The draft horse show provides a family-friendly event that offers education\, cultural history\, and fun for all ages with a small-town atmosphere. The Big Sky Draft Horse Expo offers the beauty\, grandeur\, and sheer power of today’s draft horses. While at the Expo\, we encourage you to see the sites in Deer Lodge. \nBUY TICKETS \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMONTANA’S BEST DRAFT HORSE SHOW – DEER LODGE MONTANA\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Expo’s goal is to educate the general public about draft horses\, mules\, and related equipment while entertaining the whole family. Several different breeds of magnificent draft horses and mules will be competing in classes during the three-day show. However\, this show is not just about the competitions\, it is about teamwork. Many of the participants are families who have owned and shown these draft animals for several generations. These families know what hard work is. Grandparents\, parents\, kids\, and grandkids are up early getting their horses and mules ready for the show or work. This is a year-round endeavor. \nThis exciting weekend boasts Show Hitch Classes including Cart Class\, Unicorn\, Unicorn\, Four\, Six Horse Confirmation Classes\, and several other classes open to the Show Hitches. There are also classes for those competitors who don’t own Show Hitches. This group is called the Open Class and these folks compete in working horse and driver classes; classes that feature skills such as log skidding\, precision\, and obstacle driving. There are even some classes that are based on SPEED! Also included in the show are classes for youngsters who are just getting started in this almost forgotten skill. \nExpo encourages our audiences to get involved. On Saturday Draft Horse 101 will be presented in front of the Grandstand. This is an opportunity to learn about draft horses\, harnessing\, and some of the equipment used in driving horses. There will be lots of time for questions. During the show\, there will be a time for kids to come down from the Grandstand and participate in a boot race or in stick horse barrel racing. Everyone is encouraged to visit the barns to meet the horses and their people. Bathing a one-ton animal is not nearly as easy as giving a bath to your dog. Harnesses are cleaned\, manes and tails are braided\, wagons and carts polished up. There is always something going on. This is where the public really gets an inside view of the devotion\, hard work\, and love these families have for their animals. It is absolutely wonderful to watch the youngest and the oldest working together\, no electronics\, no “screens” just people and animals!!! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBIG SKY DRAFT HORSE EXPO SCHEDULE\n\nThe 2023 Expo went of without a hitch!
