The Big Sky Draft Horse Expo offers the beauty\, grandeur\, and sheer power of today’s draft horses. While at the Expo\, we encourage you to see the sites in Deer Lodge. \nBUY TICKETS \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMONTANA’S BEST DRAFT HORSE SHOW – DEER LODGE MONTANA\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Expo’s goal is to educate the general public about draft horses\, mules\, and related equipment while entertaining the whole family. Several different breeds of magnificent draft horses and mules will be competing in classes during the three-day show. However\, this show is not just about the competitions\, it is about teamwork. Many of the participants are families who have owned and shown these draft animals for several generations. These families know what hard work is. Grandparents\, parents\, kids\, and grandkids are up early getting their horses and mules ready for the show or work. This is a year-round endeavor. \nThis exciting weekend boasts Show Hitch Classes including Cart Class\, Unicorn\, Unicorn\, Four\, Six Horse Confirmation Classes\, and several other classes open to the Show Hitches. There are also classes for those competitors who don’t own Show Hitches. This group is called the Open Class and these folks compete in working horse and driver classes; classes that feature skills such as log skidding\, precision\, and obstacle driving. There are even some classes that are based on SPEED! Also included in the show are classes for youngsters who are just getting started in this almost forgotten skill. \nExpo encourages our audiences to get involved. On Saturday Draft Horse 101 will be presented in front of the Grandstand. This is an opportunity to learn about draft horses\, harnessing\, and some of the equipment used in driving horses. There will be lots of time for questions. During the show\, there will be a time for kids to come down from the Grandstand and participate in a boot race or in stick horse barrel racing. Everyone is encouraged to visit the barns to meet the horses and their people. Bathing a one-ton animal is not nearly as easy as giving a bath to your dog. Harnesses are cleaned\, manes and tails are braided\, wagons and carts polished up. There is always something going on. This is where the public really gets an inside view of the devotion\, hard work\, and love these families have for their animals. Take Hwy 287 to Harrison\, turn onto Norwegian Creek Rd. After about 5 miles take a left onto Sitz Road (directions). Parking at the ranch. \nThe Poker Ride is sponsored by the Pony Homecoming Club. Registration for the Poker Ride is 8:30-10 am at Sitz Angus Ranch. \nRegistered riders (no horses at registration table please) can start riding between 9 am and 10:30 am for the approximately 8-10 mile trail and gravel/dirt/grass road ride. We have a fun filled weekend planned for you. In addition to our meetings there will be a photo contest\, chapter displays\, breakout sessions and vendors for shopping. On Friday evening we’ll hold the crosscut saw competition and afterwards enjoy live music & socializing. Saturday evening we’ll have our traditional banquet meal and live auction. If you’re staying at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort\, which has fabulous indoor and outdoor pools\, be sure to take some time to relax and enjoy the hot springs. \nRAFFLE TICKETS were mailed out to chapters early so everyone will have plenty of time to distribute them during the holidays. The tickets make great gifts or stocking stuffers! If you have a guest with you who is not a delegate or convention attendee\, you can purchase the banquet meal(s) separately. All other meals are optional and offered for purchase separately on your registration form. Please note there is a 40-person minimum needed to host these meals\, so please sign up for them early. In the event that we do not make the 40-person minimum\, we’ll refund your money & notify you in advance of any changes so you can make other plans. When you check-in we’ll provide you with a list of restaurants in the local area. Butte and Anaconda have some great places to eat as well as the usual fast-food varieties. Fairmont Hot Springs Resort rooms have refrigerators and microwaves. Fairmont Resort has a café and dining room for individual dining needs. They ask that you make reservations in advance for their dining room so they can be properly staffed to serve you. \nPRESIDENT’S BREAKFAST-There will be a Chapter president’s breakfast meeting on the schedule for Sunday morning. The Fairmont “Mt. Haggin” breakfast buffet will be set up and ready so they can fill their plates at the buffet and move to a separate room for their meeting.
