The Uhlhorn Trailhead is located approximately 23 miles south from downtown Lewistown, following MT-238 for 11.3 miles then turning onto Red Hill Road for another 11.2 miles. It is a recreation site adjacent to the Big Snowy Mountains. The trail was created by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service and the Judith Basin Back Country Horsemen. It is suitable for hiking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing.<\/p>\n
BLM\/Forest Service lands, good parking at trailhead. No potable water. No designated campsites. Hitching rails available at trail head. Vault toilet. Picnic table.<\/p>\n
Trail: Ride to top of Half Moon pass approx. 3 hours. Some small water crossings, some rocky areas, mostly gentle climbs.\u00a0 Swimming Woman Creek is opposite drainage. UlhornTrail connects to other Forest Service trails that lead to Halfmoon Pass and Crystal Lake along Knife Blade Ridge (a very long ride).
