{"id":169,"date":"2018-03-15T05:11:14","date_gmt":"2018-03-15T05:11:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bchmt.org\/wp\/judith\/?p=169"},"modified":"2018-12-22T05:14:34","modified_gmt":"2018-12-22T05:14:34","slug":"trail-mix-march-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bchmt.org\/wp\/judith\/2018\/03\/15\/trail-mix-march-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Trail Mix &#8211; March 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Judith Basin Chapter of Montana Back Country Horsemen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>TRAIL MIX, March 5, 2018 Newsletter\/MINUTES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President, Billie Ayers, called the meeting to order.\u00a0 17 were in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>The minutes from the March 5th, 2018, meeting were approved (April\u2019s meeting was a work meeting in preparation for the State Convention).\u00a0 Sharon Gottardi\u2019s Treasurer\u2019s report reported an estimated NET PROFIT of $14,000 from the State Convention.\u00a0\u00a0 GREAT JOB EVERYONE!\u00a0\u00a0 Sharon had a breakdown of our income and expenses for the convention and we did VERY WELL.<\/p>\n<p>Sharon also reported that she has 3 brand new shirts remaining.\u00a0 538-2688<\/p>\n<p>Sharon proposed and Ryan Kuehn motioned that Judith Basin GIFT MT Cowboy Poetry special $70 cord in appreciation for letting us borrow their sound system.\u00a0\u00a0 Motion passed.<\/p>\n<p><u>In addition to a fabulous convention, we attracted several NEW MEMBERS.\u00a0\u00a0 Brad Fogle\u2019s brother, Jane Roybal, Vaughn Esper, Kori &amp; Wayne Hofer.\u00a0 Reminder: DUES FOR 2018 ARE DUE:\u00a0 $30 for individuals and $40 for family memberships.<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cyouth\u201d resolution proposed at the convention did not pass as Montanans want to manage youth programs and opportunities locally at the chapter level.\u00a0 Strong sentiment was aired that new policies should come from the grassroots and go UP.<\/p>\n<p>Travis Rixford, JB member and BLM\/Sharing Trails co-chair with Jo Eggers, did a wonderful job with our education day, April 20 at the Riding Pavilion.\u00a0 THANKS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED AND WORKED.\u00a0 Next year the date will be April 12<sup>th<\/sup>, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Photos and a report on the INSTALLATION OF THE GATE in the Middle Fork of the Little Belts was shared by Dick Bucsis and Henry Gottardi.\u00a0\u00a0 Steve Reesor was the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> worker.<\/p>\n<p><u>The State Director\u2019s meeting is coming up May 19<sup>th<\/sup> in Gold Creek.<\/u> \u00a0Jo Eggers is planning to attend.\u00a0 Ryan and Henry may tune in via conference call.<\/p>\n<p><u>Sat. May 19<sup>th<\/sup> is also a CHAPTER RIDE AND CLEAN UP at Lime<\/u> Kiln (Judith Mtn. Lodge, f\/k\/a The Duvall Inn).\u00a0 Be RTR (ready-to-ride) at 1:00 at the trail head.\u00a0 Laura Fogle is in charge, 350-0299.<\/p>\n<p><u>Wed. May 16 from 1-5 is a meeting of the Nature-Tourism ROC group at MSU Northern on Airport Rd.<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0 Billie will represent The Trail\u2019s System, Henry will represent Judith Basin BCH, Bill K. will represent Lewistown Trap &amp; Skeet, Vaughn Esper will be there as an outfitter, Chris Cooler, Travis Rixford and Karen Kuhlmann are on the committee.\u00a0\u00a0 ANYONE INTERESTED IN PROMOTING AND UNIFYING OUR OUTDOOR RESOURCES IS WELCOME.\u00a0 Call Karen, 538-4575.<\/p>\n<p>Judy Fossum reported on the<u> Spring Shot Clinic at Cactus <\/u>Vet with Scott Damby.\u00a0 Scott has all the vaccinations IN and READY TO GO.\u00a0 JB members can go out and pick up their shots anytime.\u00a0\u00a0 Best to call ahead if you want Scott to administer the shots.\u00a0 Judith Basin gets a nice \u201ckick-back\u201d on this offering.\u00a0\u00a0 Thanks, Judy\u2026.380-0075, 374-2594.<\/p>\n<p>Laura Fogle is planning a \u201cPlay-Day-Picnic\u201d for June or so\u2026.\u00a0 More to come on this.<\/p>\n<p>Bill &amp; Karen Kuhlmann are organizing Judith Basin\u2019s managing of the PRCA rodeo gates at the fair, July 25-26.\u00a0 Gene Couch and Dana Leininger have already volunteered for Wed., July 25<sup>th<\/sup> from 9-Noon.\u00a0\u00a0 A sigh-up sheet will follow at the June meeting.\u00a0\u00a0 Judith Basin earns $600 for providing this labor.<\/p>\n<p>Our ANNUAL RIDE AND OVERNIGHT IN THE MIDDLEFORK is scheduled for June 30<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Laura Fogle, Ryan Kuehn, Scott Welsh &amp; Henry Gottardi will touch base with Ryan Peterson, Lewistown Police, re: Search &amp; Rescue association.\u00a0 Tova Gerer, (Helen Lodman\u2019s daughter from Denton) is also a source.\u00a0 We\u2019ll see where Judith Basin can fit into the S &amp; R picture.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Welsh made us all aware of a despicable atrocity in his neighborhood\u2026.5 equines were fenced in without adequate food and starved to death this winter\u2026.3 barely survived.\u00a0\u00a0 Scott Damby was called out by the Sheriff.\u00a0\u00a0 Legal proceedings involving 8 felonies are following. \u00a0Jo Eggers, Scott Welsh, and Karen Kuhlmann are going to explore with the Brand Inspector and Scott Damby how our chapter might help in \u201crisk\u201d situations endangering the lives of equines.\u00a0\u00a0 Jo will contact \u201cNeighbor in Need\u201d to see if there is a fit.\u00a0\u00a0 Good luck!<\/p>\n<p>Henry Gottardi has been exploring possibilities of hosting a youth ride with horses in the future.\u00a0 He\u2019s discovered that \u201cfield trip insurance\u201d carried by the schools DOES COVER EQUINE INTERACTION.\u00a0\u00a0 More to come.<\/p>\n<p>Henry announced that the Forest Service Radio we were issued IS MISSING.\u00a0 Replacement is $1,500.\u00a0 It is gray with an antenna and the size of a book.\u00a0 CHECK YOUR GEAR\u2026\u2026PLEASE!<\/p>\n<p>Henry reported that Judith Basin now has 11 chain saw certified members\u2026all with CPR and 1<sup>st<\/sup> Aid training.\u00a0 The BLM is in the midst of dis-allowing STIL saws for trail work due to a \u2018cap release\u2019 problem with hot fumes spraying out and burning workers.\u00a0 When doing authorized trail work, we\u2019re currently COVERED by BLM insurance\u2026..whether we can continue to use STIL saws is \u201cin suspense\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Respectfully submitted, Bill Kuhlmann,<\/strong> Your newsletter guy and secretary!<\/p>\n<p>538-4575, <a href=\"mailto:kbkuhlmann@midrivers.com\">kbkuhlmann@midrivers.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Deb Tresh \u2013 New contact information:\u00a0 <a href=\"mailto:debtresh@yahoo.com\">debtresh@yahoo.com<\/a>, Mail P.O.
