Judith Basin Chapter of Montana Back Country Horsemen

TRAIL MIX, February 11, 2018 Newsletter/MINUTES

President, Billie Ayers, called the meeting to order.  17 were in attendance.  Toni Sharp was back!   She’s been recovering from a serious horse accident and just got her bionic parts removed in January.   WELCOME BACK, TONI!

The minutes from the Jan. 8, 2018, meeting were approved as was Sharon Gottardi’s Treasurer’s report.  We’re in the middle of advancing the BCH State Convention, so balances are changing daily.  Sharon has received over 100 convention registrations and they continue coming.   However, DUES FOR 2018 ARE DUE:  $30 for individuals and $40 for family memberships.   It would helpful if everyone could “pay up” with Sharon.

Roger Johnson sold $165 in raffle tickets at the Stick Horse Rodeo.   Jo Eggers is on fire….selling raffle tickets.   Scott Damby blew through the roof with over $300 in raffle ticket sales.   EVERYONE PLEASE MAKE AN EFFORT.   Tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.   Gottardi’s have volunteered to deliver the hall tree anywhere in Montana!   WOW!

Kudos to Ryan Kuehn and everyone who made the 73rd MT Winter Fair STICK HORSE RODEO the success it was…..50 little participants….lots of FUN!

Ron Holland, State Director Alternate shared with Henry Gottardi that he was not confident about fulfilling that post in 2018.   A motion by Judy Fossum, 2nd by Karen Kuhlmann nominating Henry Gottardi as our State Director Alternate was passed unanimously.   CONGRATS, HENRY…YOU’LL DO A GREAT JOB!

Travis Rixford, JB member and BLM/Sharing Trails co-chair shared that Friday, April 20th will be the 2018 Sharing Trails all-day educational event for local 6th graders.   Travis has already contacted past presenters/trail users, and confirmed their participation for April 20th.  Great job, Travis.  Thank you.

Ryan Kuehn briefed the chapter on Sen. Daines pending bill, #2206.  Basically the bill wants to release land protected in “Wilderness Study” designation as stipulated in the Wilderness Act.  There are 5 areas in MT involved including the Middlefork of the Little Belt Mtns. and the Snowy Mtns. Generally, BCH sentiment is AGAINST this proposal.  You can learn more online or contact Ryan Kuehn, .   MT Senators and Rep. Gianforte contact info. is at the end of the newsletter.

2018 State Convention Planning, April 6-7-8, 2018:

CIRCLE THESE DATES NOW….WE’LL NEED YOU!

Judith Basin delegates (to be seated at our table in blue Judith Basin shirts) on Sat. and Sun a.m. will be:   Bill Kuhlmann, Gene Couch, Roger Johnson, Jo Eggers, Brad Fogle, Dick Bucsis and Gary Fitzpatrick.  Our chapter will pay their convention reg. which includes the train.  Bill Kuhlmann & Jo Eggers will attend the pre-convention director’s meeting at the library at 1:00 on Friday afternoon.  Hopefully, Henry will be able to join them.  Jo has committed to attending the Sun. post-convention director’s meeting at the Trade Center.   Each chapter is permitted to have 8 delegates….so we could still add another person.

Silent Auction items are still coming in from Judith Basin members.  Our chapter gets to KEEP ALL THE MONEY RAISED AT THE SILENT AUCTION.  Thank you Barb Holland, Billie Ayers and Judy Fossom for your awesome items this week.   Sharon is storing and recording all Silent Auction items….we have almost 40 at this time.  We will have 2 SILENT AUCTIONS with 2 closing times Sat. night so that Pick up and Pay will be staggered and run more smoothly.

BLUE MONOGRAMED SHIRTS – Bridgett is coordinating shirts for EVERYONE.   Each chapter at the convention will be wearing different colored shirts with their chapter’s logo.  We need to do the same.  A new Wyoming Trader w/emblem jacket is $85.  A new insulated vest w/emblem is $70.  A new shirt from Cottonwood Originals (local) is $30.   Bridgett is also trying to contact inactive members to see if they would DONATE their shirts back to our chapter.   Please contact Bridgett ASAP at 538-8836 if you need official garb.   Shirt/jacket orders will be confirmed at our March meeting, Mon. March 5th

Karen Kuhlmann went over “Who’s in Charge of What” at the convention.  Judith Basin members will have ‘multiple’ duties and responsibilities.  Please contact Karen, 538-4575, . if you need clarification or want to volunteer for a task/committee.   WE WILL NEED A SMALL ARMY TO SET UP EARLY FRIDAY, APRIL 6TH at the Trade Center.    BIG JOB….but easy with many hands!

Respectfully submitted, Bill Kuhlmann, Your newsletter guy and secretary!
