Sharing Trails is an educational event hosted by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Judith Basin Back Country Horsemen. Several hundred sixth-graders have participated in the event since its inception in 2013. JBBCH earned the 2015 Chairman’s Award from the Montana Back Country Horsemen for the Sharing Trails event.
Initially a workshop on trail etiquette and safety has grown to become an annual event furthering collaborative partnerships between groups with diverse interests regarding the use of backcountry trails. Workshop hosts for the event have included members from BLM, Central Montana Search & Rescue, Fergus County Weed District, JBBCH, Lewistown Honda, Little Belts Snowmobile Club, Montana State Parks, Montana Wilderness Association, National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the U.S. Forest Service. Classes often include lessons on noxious weeds, global positioning satellites, hiking, off-roading, snowmobiling, horseback riding, public land stewardship and search and rescue.
