The Selway-Pintler Wilderness Back Country Horsemen, SPWBCH, is one of two chapters located in the Bitterroot Valley. Nine BCH members, who wanted to focus on wilderness trails, founded the chapter in September of 2006. Those nine horsemen were Dave and Julie Schram, Dennis and Joy Price, Joe and Kathy Hundley, Alan and Christine Waltz and Chris McCabe. Many of the trails were being neglected and stood the chance of being removed from Forest Service maps due to lack of Forest Service funding and years of forest fires. Their goal was to create a traditional Back Country Horsemen chapter that was tailored mainly as a working group first, not a social riding club. They also wanted to be an outlet for back country education such as Leave No Trace (Pack it in, Pack it out) and to help protect the heritage of stock use in the back country. The SPWBCH focuses mainly on projects within the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness, the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness and the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The SPWBCH is an affiliate of the Back Country Horsemen of Montana which is in turn an affiliate of the Back Country Horsemen of America.

Dedicated to preserving the back country and our right to ride!
